King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) restoration

This project saw the Deltic diesel locomotive 55 002 King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry undergo repair work and repainting at Locomotion.

This work was undertaken in preparation for the locomotive going on display at the National Railway Museum.

Aim

  • Bodyside repairs
  • Full repaint of the locomotive

Context

The diesel locomotive's bodyside required some repairs. The repaint from BR blue livery to BR green was appropriate for the planned display of the locomotive (in its 1967 condition) at the 2016 Flying Scotsman exhibition, which took place in Great Hall at the National Railway Museum, York.

Outcomes

Both the repairs and repainting were completed on time and to budget.
